When Should You Buy Your Wedding Dress?

Timeline Tips with Love from Veni Infantino

Darling brides-to-be, pour yourself a glass of bubbly (or a very large latte), because we’re about to talk timelines, tulle, and the moment you find the one. And no, we are not talking about him — the dress, of course!

As someone who has spent decades surrounded by silks, satins, and starry-eyed brides, let me tell you a little secret: the perfect wedding look isn’t just found — it’s timed to perfection. So when should you buy your wedding dress? Let’s dive in, shall we?

🗓️ 12 Months to Go: Let the Dreaming Begin

At this stage, you’re Pinteresting like a woman possessed, saving everything from vintage lace to cathedral-length veils. And I love it for you.

But let’s get serious: this is the golden moment to start shopping. Why? Most designer gowns (yes, even my own darling creations) can take 6–8 months to arrive once ordered. And that’s before any nip, tuck, or custom magic your seamstress might weave.

You can find your local Veni Infantino bridal stockist on our store locater

Veni’s Tip: Go early, not in a panic. Your dream dress deserves time to shine — and be shipped!

💃 9–10 Months Out: Say “Yes” to the Dress

This is the sweet spot, my love. By now, you’ve figured out your venue, your vibe, and maybe even your flower budget (though let’s be honest, it’s probably already gone on candles and calligraphy).

At this point, you should say “yes” to the dress. Not just any dress — the one. The one that makes your mother cry, your best friend squeal, and your heart skip a beat.

Veni’s Voice of Reason: Don’t second-guess yourself! If it’s giving you goosebumps, it’s probably the one.

🧵 6 Months Out: Let the Alterations Begin

The dress has arrived! (Cue confetti cannons.)

Now it’s time for the first fitting. Whether it’s a tweak in the waist or adjusting a hem, this is when the gown becomes your gown.

Veni Says: Always bring the shoes, the undergarments, and the sass. We need to see the whole picture. just don't wear any fake tan to the fitting in case of rubbing off and marking the dress before the big day.

You’ll likely need 2–3 fittings, so space them out wisely and leave wiggle room for unexpected changes. Also note t try and not to loose to much weight from ordering the dress to the wedding day, as this may alter the look on your big day.

💍 1–2 Months Out: Final Fitting Fabulousness

By now, the dress fits like a glove, your veil is on standby, and your accessories are ready to dazzle. This final fitting is just to ensure you can walk, dance, and breathe — all essential skills for a bride, I assure you.

Veni’s Final Flourish: Practice your walk, darling. No one wants a tripping bride. Unless it’s into the arms of a very handsome groom.

🎉 The Week Of: Steamer On Standby!

Pick up your dress (or have it delivered in a cloud of white tissue paper), keep it hung in a safe, dry place, and resist the urge to try it on 37 more times. You’ve got this.

Final Thoughts from Veni 💌

Choosing your wedding dress isn’t just about ticking a box — it’s about feeling like the most beautiful version of yourself. And timing? It’s everything.

So be early, be organised, and most importantly — be fabulous.

And remember, whether you’re walking down the aisle or watching your daughter do it, I’ll be here with a design that makes your heart flutter and your confidence soar.

With love, lace, and just the right amount of sparkle,
Veni x
